Features of Tension Type Headache

It is a band like sensation over the head, as if someone has tied a band on the head and is pulling it. There is a feeling of pressure on the head.

Its also known as “Featureless headache” because usually it is not associated with nausea, vomiting, flashes of light, fear of sounds.

This type of headache usually occurs on both sides of the head.

The headache is associated with muscle tension, contraction of the muscles of the face and head muscles.

Episodic Management

– Pain killers, NSAIDS – such as Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Naproxen.

Combination of painkillers and muscle relaxants is also beneficial

Prophylactic Management (to prevent future attacks)

Amitryptyline is one of the most effective drugs for this.
