Infertility due to blocked Fallopian tubes

tubal-block-ivfInability to conceive due to tubal problems, is a common cause of infertility.

Infertility due to tubal factors including fallopian tube blockade, contributes to almost 30% of infertility all over the world. But the developing countries, including India, are still battling with a major curse of Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is the most common illness in India, occurring in many forms, affecting the lungs, lymph nodes, brain, spinal cord, liver, spleen, intestines, ovaries, fallopian tubes, genitals and almost any part of the body.

Tuberculosis is a treatable illness. With major government efforts, tuberculosis burden has reduced, but is still significant. The people are very aware of the illness, but unfortunately the stigma left once the disease is cured, falls heavily on the lady who plans fertility in future.

Genital Tuberculosis specially damages the fallopian tubes. The fallopian tubes are the tubes which carry the ovum from the ovaries to the uterus, where fertilization with the sperms takes place. The candidates whose fallopian tubes are blocked are not suitable for microsurgery.

IVF is a big boon for such patients with tubal block and tubal infertility.

The term IVF literally means In-Vitro Fertilization, that means fertilization outside the human body, the Fallopian tubes are the sites where fertilization occurs normally, inside the body.

Today the scope of IVF has vastly increased besides the Tubal factors of infertility, owing to impressive progress into various aspects of this treatment, and every day betterment of the success rates.

Still tubal factor infertility, remains one of the commonest reasons for IVF, specially in India

As one says that prevention is better than cure, efforts should be made to prevent Genital Tuberculosis, eradicate the burden of tuberculosis from the society. This would significantly reduce the burden of tubal infertility in the society. However, once tubal block occurs, IVF remains the only hope for the couples to conceive and have a baby.
